Any of several catlike viverrid mammals of the genera Poiana and Prionodon of Asia and Africa, having a spotted coat and a long banded tail.

A kind of civet-cat found in Java, etc., banded with black and white, and having 38 teeth, Prionodon (Linsang) gracilis. A related African species, Prionodon (Poiana) richardsoni, is known as the Guinea linsang.
