paramylum

A carbohydrate resembling starch that is composed of glucose and forms the reserve foodstuff of certain algae.

A colorless granular carbohydrate, (C₆H₁₀O₅)_n, which is found in certain infusoria, as Euglena viridis. It is related to starch (whence the name), but is not acted on by diastase or turned blue by iodine.
