sclereid

A thick-walled lignified sclerenchyma cell. Sclereids are variable in shape and are shorter than fibers.

In botany, a hardened and thickened cell; a lignified cell or stone-cell. See sclerotic parenchyma, under sclerotic.

A reduced form of sclerenchyma cells with highly thickened, lignified walls.
