An alkaloid drug, C₁₇H₂₁NO₄, extracted from plants such as henbane and used primarily to treat motion sickness and nausea and to dilate the pupil.

A difficultly crystallizable alkaloid, C₁₇H₂₁NO₄ + H₂O, obtained from Scopolina carniolica, S. Japonica, Duboisia myoporoides, Atropa Belladonna, Datura Stramonium, and other plants of the Solanaceæ: identical with hyoscine. The hydrobromide is most used. It is a soporific and anesthetic.
