The simple ascidians; a suborder of Ascidiacea contrasted with Compositæ, and with Salpiformes, containing ordinary fixed ascidians which are solitary and seldom reproduce by gemmation, or, if colonial (as in one family), whose members have no common investment, each having its own case or test.
