A red to brownish-red mineral of the garnet group, Mn₃Al₂(SiO₄)₃.

A manganesian variety of garnet.

In petrography, a name used by Rosenbusch (1895) for a variety of lamprophyre composed of hornblende and diopside with lime-soda feldspar. Occasionally orthoclase and olivin may be present. The variety is nearly the same as camptonite.
